The Owego Rotary Club is proud to announce the establishment of Sentry Park, a new community landmark located at the northern terminus of the Court Street Bridge. The project revitalizes the long-unused brick posts that have stood guard over the bridge for more than two decades, transforming them into a space that celebrates history, creativity, and civic pride.

Designed to enhance the existing architectural features of the bridge, Sentry Park blends preservation with purpose. Bronze plaques will be affixed to the interior of the brick columns, honoring individuals who made substantial contributions to society beyond Tioga County prior to the year 2000. Visitors can scan QR codes displayed on the plaques to access concise online biographies, offering a deeper look at each honoree’s life and legacy.

Beyond recognizing the past, the park also looks to the future. Envisioned as a “soapbox-style” platform, Sentry Park provides a symbolic and physical space where aspiring authors, artists, and notable individuals can share their voices and announce their endeavors—continuing Owego’s tradition of leadership and community engagement.

The project was made possible through a secured grant supporting the development of Sentry Park,  enhancing the northern entrance of the Court Street Bridge.

The Owego Rotary Club extends sincere gratitude to all who contributed to making this vision a reality, including narration by Phoebe Shafer Morris and contributions from Peter Gordon, Keith Lewis, the Owego Village Board, the Owego Historic Preservation Committee, the Fanny C. Hyde Trust, the New York State Department of Transportation, and John Spencer.

Sentry Park stands as a testament to Owego’s rich history and bright future—a place where the stories of yesterday inspire the voices of tomorrow.
