OK, this is one of my more challenging bulletins. After anointing myself (and my paper) with coffee and leaving early to change before going back to the office, I will put together what I have from notes around the wet areas of paper plus assistance I received from Carolyn Wright and Judy.
Tom Milligan announces that there will be door prizes at next week’s joint meeting with Kiwanis. Come to qualify for one of the 14 door prizes and also to see the presentation of the Raffle winnings to Kiwanis.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Martha Brennan and Tom Milligan.
Carl announced that we now have families for 20 exchange students. The Key Club is taking this on as a project. Jip is in Florida for 10 days. She is there with the Rotarian in the District who handles the exchange with Thailand. Jip and her two suitcases will be moving from the Nolis’ to live with Richard and Jim on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We are confident that King Arthur, while not leading the songs, will make an appropriate tribute and fanfare.
There will be a breakfast meeting tomorrow.
A new members information meeting has been scheduled for Monday, 25 November 2002 at 0730 AM. It will be at the Treadway Inn and the club will pay for your breakfast.
Please respond to Orv Wright confirming that you can or cannot attend so we can arrange the proper size table.
Al Bingley attended a meeting last Saturday in which RI and the flow of money was explained. Al has volunteered to attend another meeting in January on RI.
We are up to ~ 600 plants sold. Please keep up the good work. (Ours was not a lucky table today other than having the guest speaker, who I had to miss. I will say, however, that we have rented kayaks from them and we had a nice tour and lesson down the river.)
Two drivers are needed to deliver meals this Saturday. A number of Club members have signed up to volunteer. Harry is to be commended for signing up to help in a number of capacities on a variety of dates.
Richard was too fast (and my paper too wet to get all of the fines.)
Dick, for sartorial comments Orv, for his fatherly advice John, for preparing to pay before he was fined Judy, for making Richard feel guilty for the small quantity of food that she ate Tim, it was noon and he did not know where his exchange student was. All those who have not signed up to host a student or who have not contributed to the diddy bag
Vern reported that he saw John Hyatt yesterday and he is making progress with his therapy. Vern reported that John’s laugh sounded like himself which was good to hear.
Mychael contributed a happy dollar for the soccer state champs.
The excellent quality of our food should not go unnoticed as we should also recognize how nice it was to have Betty back with us.
Congratulations to Jeff Montgomery who is getting married this weekend.
Dave Jordan, owner of Water and Wilderness, spoke about kayaking. He stressed that it is not a dangerous sport, but rather an excellent family activity that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. Kayaks are stable and able to handle wakes and waves in any body of water. One women recently kayaked from the Western coast of Florida to New York City.
Dave rents and sells equipment, gives demos, leads tours, and arranges kayaking trips on the Susquehanna River, the Finger Lakes, and the St. Lawrence River. He also teaches kayaking including winter indoor classes in the Owego pool.
Judging by the specific and interesting questions asked after the presentation, there may be some Rotarians on the river soon.
